Can we really blame anyone for not reporting an identity theft crime to the FTC? It takes so long to report ..20 minutes to an hour..and the consumer receives nothing in return. I think I remember receiving a pamphlet in the mail and that was about it. I would not take the time to report again and I am not alone as statistics indicate that many of us who have been victimized don't contact the FTC and report it. So the "privacy gurus" say that identity theft statistics are difficult to obtain and not accurate. I am one of those folks tired of talking about the problem.. it is time to start tackling the problem.
Until legislation improves and increased regulatory measures are placed upon the datafurnishing industry we can all expect to have to grin and bear it

Reporting and fixing identity theft is a nightmare from any way you look at it. Yes, we do need stronger laws protecting us as consumers. Any id theft victim can tell you that they were presumed guilty until they proved it wasn't them who opened the line of credit.
LifeLock currently is sponsoring a petition to present in Washington DC called 'Strike Back - Defeat Identity Theft Now'. It's aim is to strengthen identity theft laws and create new ones to protect us. Anyone can sign it: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/strikeback
